To strengthen contamination prevention measures and improve workplace safety, Nelipak chose to expand its use of Dycem contamination control mats across its facility.
CHALLENGE
Controlling contamination risks associated with foot traffic between production areas was an ongoing challenge for the Nelipak team. Maintaining cleanliness standards required constant attention, particularly in areas with high levels of personnel movement.
For many years, the facility relied on a combination of Dycem contamination control mats and traditional peel-off tacky mats. While the existing system helped support contamination control efforts, concerns began to arise regarding the health and safety implications of the peel-off mats. Peel-off mats often pose a trip hazard, as well as often get stuck around wheeled traffic.
Although contamination had not directly impacted product quality, the team recognised the need for a more effective and sustainable long-term solution to help minimise contamination risks while improving operational safety.
SOLUTION
Nelipak was already familiar with Dycem, having installed several mats in high-risk areas when the facility was first built following recommendations from a previous Quality Manager.
Based on positive past experience with both the product and the support provided by Dycem, the company made the decision to transition away from peel-off mats and move exclusively to Dycem contamination control mats throughout the facility. The decision was driven by three key objectives:
- Reduced health and safety risks
- Improved contamination control
- Long-term cost savings
The implementation process was straightforward and supported by Dycem’s experienced team from initial consultation through to installation.
RESULTS
Today, more than 100 employees pass over Dycem mats every day as part of their normal workflow. By replacing peel-off mats with Dycem, Nelipak has strengthened its contamination control strategy while reducing potential health and safety concerns associated with disposable alternatives. The solution has also delivered cost savings through the elimination of ongoing peel-off mat replacement requirements.
The cleaning process has been easily integrated into existing facility procedures, with the mats simply incorporated into the team’s daily mopping schedule.
The quality of the installation has also been a key benefit. Since the mats were installed, Nelipak has experienced no issues, giving the team confidence in a contamination control solution that continues to perform reliably year after year.
