At Vygon it is imperative that their manufacturing and cleanroom areas remain contamination free, to keep the end user’s of their products safe. To add to their robust contamination control strategy, Vygon chose to implement a Dycem, a “brand new decontamination mat in their airlock” was added. Vygon describes their Dycem mat as “It doesn’t talk, it doesn’t move, but its job is simple: to be walked and rolled over to prevent contaminants from entering production.”
Why is it needed?
The floor is one of the most underrated vectors of contamination, but it is the largest surface and should not be ignored. Vygon describes why their mat is needed, “the wheels of carts, crates, and equipment love picking up dust and particles. The Dycem mat acts as an intelligent filter: it captures what must not enter an ISO 8 cleanroom.” Dycem mats are proven to capture up to 99.9% of contaminants from shoes and wheels, remaining effective even in heavy traffic areas.
How does it work?
Dycem’s naturally tacky surface effectively attracts, captures, and retains contaminants on contact. By leveraging Van der Waals forces, the electromagnetic interactions secure the contaminants firmly onto the mat’s surface, ensuring they remain trapped until the mat is cleaned.
In practice, Vygon have told their personnel:
- To move slowly when passing over the mat, whether that is walking or pushing a cart.
- The mat silently captures particles.
